Happy Birthday Miss Goo! You are quite awesome and I am so happy to call myself your friend.
Hey ladies of Things Celtic! I hate to bug you about store things via livejournal, but it's my best available method right now. Do yall have a black utilikilt in the original style in size 36 in stock right now? If there's not many, is there any way one can be held for me to come buy it on Saturday? Would you be so kind as to email me at <REDACTED>?

Happy birthday NeoHippie!
Applications are all in. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have my last envelope full of supporting documents mailed out.
My preference in order of school is:
NUI Galway,
University of Edinburgh
Trinity College Dublin
University of Glasgow
Though I suspect Trinity and Edinburgh are actually tied. NUI Galway is the only school left that I have to mail documents into. I'm very excited about finally getting the last bits of things in, but I have no idea what kind of time frame I'm looking at to hear back from anyone. I also filled out my FAFSA yesterday night (they said my expected family contribution is $9600! Don't they realize that I said my family consists of 1 person and that 1 person will be in college next year!?)
The idea of this adventure I'm preparing myself for makes me very happy. I really want to go and have the time to experience these places and ingest and digest this knowledge that I yearn for. On the other side, I have a lot of anxiety about leaving my home. Texas is in my blood and my tribe is here. I will miss you all dearly when I go, though I know that when this door is closed, a new one will open for me with new possibilities for love and friendship wherever I end up.
It will be a purge; a cleansing, a beginning again. There are so few things that I will take with me when/if I go. Probably just my clothes, my computer, and my pillow; nothing more. I've only lived on my own since November. Less than 2 months. I'm likely to have roommates overseas, but I will still be alone in that I will know nobody and will not have physical access to those I have been accustomed to having around. This will be a new and eye opening experience for me.

So, I've recently felt like getting back into writing short stories. I used to do this in high school, but it kind of fell away. I think it's a good place to work on my creative spark, and here's a short short story I wrote while at work today for anyone interested.

I think it's very appropriate that the death of the old year and the birth of the new has left me with some pretty huge changes in my life. In the old year I ended a relationship that had lasted over five and a half years. From the age of 19 until the age of 25. That is a pretty large chunk of my short life to give to a single person, and being part of that union has definitely molded and shaped me in my burgeoning adult years.
I give thanks for all that my experience has given me. I would never wish that my experience had been otherwise, or desire to give something back, that I had never had it. There is value in every experience, both happy and sad; and while there is sadness in this separation, I do not fear the change. I am looking forward with my head held high as I take the first steps on my new path.
In the new year I will wend my way along this new path, with new friends added to the old, new trials, tribulations, and lessons along the way. It is in this new year that I will seriously begin the process of relocating to Ireland or Scotland, and I look forward to that with great hope and curiosity.
As a part of this, I will soon be looking for a new roommate. David is moving out this weekend and I would like to consider a new roommate for a move in date of post Yule. My preference would be to have a friend or friend of a friend as a roommate, that way I feel safer (less chance of crazy people - though all my friends tend to be crazy in a good way). If you know of someone who is looking for a new place in this general time frame, please let me and them know. My only desires are: no pets - I have Hunter and my landlord has not approved any other pets, no smoking, and please be decently clean (I tend to be cluttered, but not so much dirty).

First I want to give my extreme thanks to everyone who has wished Hunter well, prayed for him, or sent him Reiki or other energy. I know that it is helping him, and I really appreciate it.
We took Hunter in to the Ophthalmologist today where he had surgery to repair the hole in his eye. They said he is a good candidate for repair and he has a good chance (50/50) of keeping his eye. We were worried about what the actual hole looked like (whether it had clean edges or ragged ones), but we got a call after his surgery this evening and were told that the edges were very clean and it was fairly easy to just sew up the laceration (likely caused by a cat's claw). Hunter is spending the night at the clinic tonight and should be home tomorrow afternoon.
It is vital that his eye heals properly in the weeks to come. He will have a very stringent schedule of antibiotics and eye drops to help ensure this. He is a sweet little guy and such a trooper! I can't wait to have him home with me again so I can give him lots of hugs and kisses.

Hunter hurt his right eye while he was at my mom's house last night. We took him to a vet today and found out that he has a hole in his cornea, if not deeper. Tomorrow we will be trying to take him to an eye specialist and hopefully having corrective surgery tomorrow. Best case scenario is that he's got a small defect in his eye and partial loss of vision in that eye. Worst case scenario is that he loses the whole eye. He is in pain. We've got antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication for him, but I know he could use the special touch that only this community can provide.
I know there has been a lot of need in the greater world recently, but if you can spare some thought and energy for one small, very well loved puppy, I would really appreciate it.

I can't remember if I took them to flipside or not, or if I took them anywhere else afterwards. Do you remember seeing me with my poi? Did I bring them to your house and leave them there? Have you seen them? I really miss them and am searching everywhere. Please let me know if you can help!

Steve Jobs said "Fourty percent of Americans read one book or less per year."
In retaliation, Shelfari is hosting the 50 book challenge. Many people are making their lists on the Shelfari website, but I've decided to make mine here.
I'm too lazy to write the names of the authors right now, so you just get titles:
Not too shabby. I'll need to pick up the pace a bit to hit 50 by the end of the year, though. Also, I am not including books read for school.

Hello my lovelies!
Yes, this Saturday, August 16th is my birthday! In celebration, I invite you all out to the Full Moon swim at Barton Springs around 8pm (I will be bringing cake!), and then to Peter Pan Golf for extra fun. There will possibly be group dinner beforehand if there is interest. I hope to see all of yall!
Much love,
Carly

Today is a day of thanks and remembrance for the hard work of Tailtu, Lugh's foster mother who gave her life in the clearing of the fields of Ireland. It is a feast, it is a day of competition in funerary games, but it is also a part of the harvest. The question that's been on my mind is, what is ripening in the fields of Texas at this time of the year?
